The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed claims of terrorists’ movement into the Ogbomoso axis, warning against the spread of fake news.
According to the report, a video and voice note circulating on social media alleged the movement and infiltration of suspected terrorists into forests around Ogbomoso and the Old Oyo National Park. The command rejected these claims as false, misleading, and without factual basis.
Ayanlade Olayinka, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Police Public Relations Officer, said intelligence assessments and security reports do not support the existence of terrorist movement or infiltration in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the video being circulated is old and has been in circulation for some time, being deliberately recycled to create fear and panic among residents. They are warning the public to refrain from sharing unverified security-related content.
Notwithstanding the falsity of the report, the Oyo State Police Command remains proactive and resolute in its commitment to the safety and security of all residents of the State. Consequently, intelligence and covert operatives have been strategic
The Command expressed concern over the increasing trend of fake news and unverified security alerts being circulated on social media, which can create unnecessary panic and disrupt economic activities. It is a criminal offence punishable under extant laws.

Individuals who deliberately spread false information with the intent to cause public alarm or destabilise the peace and security of the State are warned to desist. The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, will investigate and prosecute any individual or group found culpable of spreading falsehoods capable of jeopardising public peace and security.
Citizens are advised to remain calm and rely solely on verified information disseminated through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other recognised security agencies.
Residents are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movement or activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.

The Command reassures residents of Oyo State that there is currently no credible intelligence indicating the presence or infiltration of the purported terrorist group within the State. This reassurance is based on ongoing security assessments and the work of local security forces.
